PaperCut MF Upgrade - 10/24/18 @ 4:30pm

Maintenance notification:

What: PaperCut MF

When: October 24, 2018 4:30pm – 6:30pm

Who: All staff and students

Type: Server application upgrade

Action required: None

 

Reason: Due to an incompatibility between the  scanning software Drivve and recently installed Sharp MX-M905 MFDs (copiers),  we must upgrade PaperCut MF to restore this functionality.

 

Expected outcome: This upgrade will allow us to  restore the expected scanning functionality to our largest MFDs. It will add  commonly used Drivve functions (e.g. Email to Self) but also exciting new  options (e.g. Scan to Google Drive) across our entire fleet of Sharp MFDs, even  those that did not have Drivve previously. This will be an exciting benefit to  the district.

 

Impact & what to expect:

  • Sharp and Lexmark printers and MFDs  (copiers) will not allow logins and may display error messages during the  upgrade. Because of this, you will not be able to copy, send faxes, or release  print jobs on impacted devices during the upgrade.
  • We recommend that you refrain from printing  during the outage but incoming faxes and submitted print jobs should queue  properly.
  • After the upgrade is complete, you may notice  small changes to device screens but nothing substantial. Devices will largely  resume functioning as expected.

 

Next steps:

  • This upgrade will not immediately roll out the  new scanning function. Additional work is required but it will not require  additional downtime. We will prioritize the impacted units and send out  training materials when it is ready.
  • Eventually Drivve will be decommissioned and  replaced with ScanShare on select devices for advanced scanning functions.  PaperCut MF’s new integrated scanning will be used for basic scanning tasks and  available on the entire Sharp MFD fleet.
